New I-539 & I-765 Editions Take Effect Sept. 15 Without Grace Period
USCIS will use new 09/15/26 editions of Forms I-539 and I-765, with no grace period.
If you are filing around September 15, PLEASE double-check both the form edition and filing date before submitting.
The key is the filing date:
Before September 15, 2026:
Use the current edition. USCIS will reject the new 09/15/26 edition if filed too early.
On or after September 15, 2026:
Use the new 09/15/26 edition. USCIS will reject older editions.
For paper filings, USCIS will look at the postmark date, so timing matters. For online filings, the submission date controls.
This revisions are tied to the new fixed-period-of-admission rule for F-1, J-1, and I nonimmigrants.
